Banned Books Week! (5)

Ya know, it’s easy for us to look at people making these kinds of short-minded decisions about books and libraries, but the simple fact remains: they do it, and they do it under the mistaken impression that they’re “protecting the children”. From what, I”m afraid I have no idea, but they’re bound and determined to make Alice in Wonderland and Tom Sawyer into the sort of things that require a parent’s permission. And the only way to combat this is to stop rolling your eyes and just get involved to change it.

That’s it.

OK, a few single-panels and one-shots, and then to a story involving Eddie that I’ve been itching to start. Thanks again for being such great readers, guys!

  1. One of my kids snubbed reading until he discovered the Captain Underpants series and later Bone. Both rank high on the banned book list. He is now an avid reader, and even started “House of Leaves”, which even I have not yet attempted.

    • It never ceases to amaze me that the books that gets hooked on reading — like the Harry Potter series as well as Captain Underpants — are the ones that get hauled in for challenge. It sorta makes you wonder if the people complaining got anywhere past the Coles Notes version of these things. 🙂
