Thanksgiving! (15)
So Canadian Thanksgiving is over for the year, but with the American one on its way, here’s a few of Doc’s tips for saving what could be a disastrous dinner:
— Went a little too crazy with the cayenne? Overly spiced foods can be saved by throwing a little sugar into the mix. Dont want to use sugar in your perfect chili recipe? Mix in some plain yogurt instead.
— Turkey a little too well done? Slice it as thin as possible, then ladle on some gravy (even if you have to resort to instant). If it’s chicken, put it in a casserole dish and fill with chicken broth, then let it stand for a while. Beef? Scrape off the brunt skin and cover with salsa. Or, if you’re adventurous, mix some raspberry jam, ketchup, and seasoned salt in a bowl, put it in the freezer for a short while to cool off, then brush it on. You’ll be surprised by that one, trust me.
— Sticky, mushy rice? Run it under cold water and separate by hand. If it’s beyond the pale, start thinking of rice pudding for dessert.
— Cake refuses to come out of the closet… er, pan? If it’s still warm, just let it cool a bit. If it has cooled, hold it in a pot of warm water, which should help loosen it up. Edge it loose with a knife and tap the bottom before trying to remove it again.
Got some of your own? Put ’em in the comments so we can all share.
Some single panels for a bit, then a new storyline. Thanks, as always, for reading.
