Boxes from Home! (3)

Starting tomorrow, both here and on a special web page solely dedicated to it, we’ll be starting a kinda major project. You’ve seen allusions to it in here for the past few days, but let’s give it a proper introduction, shall we?

As some of you know, my guys have been around for a really long time, since 1987. In all that time, they’ve been in the comics, of course, but they’ve also put their names and likenesses on a number of non-profit campaigns, everything from an AIDS hospice in New Zealand to an LGBT arts festival in Scotland. They’ve appeared in a few short animations and one long one that I’m hoping to have wrapped up by Christmas. They’ve been out there acting in service to the community for decades in just about every way possible…

… except on stage.

I dont know why this has burned in my side, but I’ve always wanted to bring them to life under the lights with a bit of song and dance: it just seems right, you know?, that a couple of gay boys would turn their first night together into a Rodgers and Hart show (Well, technically, their *second*, but that’s another story for another time…). I hadnt really pursued the idea that much, until I realized, well, heck, kids, maybe I should just write the damn thing, put it out there for the readership, and see what happens.

So I have.

The format will be something of a hybrid between a published stage script and a graphic novel. Lots of images, with lots of stage directions. It’s going to have a very different look and feel from what you would normally expect here, less comic strip and more PBS Great Performances. All the dialogue, all the lyrics penned for music that hasnt been written yet. Feel free to make up your own — God knows I did when I was writing the damn thing.

And when it’s done, exercise your right as an armchair critic and let me know what you think. Hell, tell me along the way if something does or does not work for ya. Granted, this is just a table reading of sorts, but with a few costumes. And some set pieces. And even dancing pirates.

I really hope you like it.

/Sean
